Beauty Around the World: Kohl Cat Eyes in India

Here at Influenster, we have a thirst for knowledge on all things beauty in international places. So, we're dedicating this series to update you on the must-know beauty buzz in various parts of the world! This week's destination? India!

Although makeup worn on a daily basis in India is for the most part au naturel, once a bride's wedding day hits, it's all about creating a knock-out look! Traditional Indian wedding makeup is done keeping in mind the wedding dress, the face structure, the skin type, and the jewelry. In other words, colorfully pigmented eye shadow is encouraged.

Reminiscent of old school Bollywood makeup, a smokey cat eye using Kajal (or kohl eyeliner) is a popular way to accentuate the eyes. And, fun fact: Kohl has been used in India as a cosmetic for centuries. Mothers would actually apply it to their baby's eyes to improve their vision!

Flash forward to the 21st century, and now it's a major makeup statement! See for yourself with the photos below. And, if you're interested in re-creating the look, we've included a step-by-step tutorial including every product you'll need!
