5 Beauty Brands for the Cool Girl

A.K.A YOU

Share Tweet

We're all about tracking down the latest and greatest brands hitting the beauty counter. But sometimes, it's not the beauty counter that has us meeting our mascara soul mate. We admit it, sometimes we turn to social media to introduce us to products that not only will cure our smoky eye woes but will also rack up the likes. If you can relate (and we have a feeling you can!), check out five beauty brands perfect for the Instagram star in all of us.

Laqa & Co: This New York-based beauty brand is the definition of downtown cool girl. Although the brand started with a nail polish pen, it has since expanded into other product categories including lip and cheeks. And, as if the formulations weren't enough to sell you (their new Avo Lip Butters are our avocado dreams come true), their packaging surely will be. Laqa & Co continually features new artists' designs on their packaging!

Although we're tempted to tell you to purchase their new Avo Lip Butter (do it!), we're partial to their other lip classic: the lip pencil. These chubbies are pigmented, creamy, and leave lips looking glossy and polished. Have your choice of color, but we're partial to Toots, a lush lilac shade.

Vapour Organic Beauty: Those well-versed in the natural beauty category are likely familiar with Vapour. The blend of high-performance cosmetics and organic ingredients is what makes Vapour stand out. Often times it can be a challenge to find a natural brand that holds up to your more traditional makeup, and this one does. But beyond that, Vapour prides itself on creating skincare-rich cosmetics, meaning they jam packs their products with beneficial ingredients.

What to buy: Aura Multi Use Stick  ($36)

This multi-stick allows you to strategically place your glow. We're simply enamored with Brilliance, a  24-karat gold hue that adds shimmer and shine to anywhere you could want.

Nerd Skincare: Those who love science will simply adore Nerd's back-to-basics approach: start at the cellular level. You likely know that acne is caused by bacteria, so with that in mind, why not treat it where the real problem lies. That's excatly what Nerd aims to do: work with your body's natural microbiome and fight acne by balancing your skin's natural flora. Oh, and their packaging is a minimalist's MO.

What to buy: Nerd Skincare Miraculous Brightening Facial Mask ($20)

Everyone loves a good sheet mask, so why not opt for one that contains nearly every good-for-you ingredient you can imagine? Ceramides, hyaluronic acid, macadamia oil, licorice root extract, and more make this an effective treatment.

Winky Lux: Another New York-based company, Winky Lux is perfect for any lip lover. From their adorable pill-like packaging to their variety of color options, we've found can't decide what we're more excited about. Plus, these pigmented goodies are cruelty free, paraban free, phthalate free, non-toxic, and wildly affordable.

What to buy: Winky Lux Matte Lip Velour ($14)

Asking to choose which color of the Matte Lip Velour is our favorite is a difficult task. But, we must admit we're partial to Macaroon, a delicate lavender lip color that contains moisturizing vanilla oil so you can wear your matte lip without worry.

Elcie Cosmetics: You might know the founder of Elcie Cosmetics, Lilit Caradanian, by her social media nom de plumb: MakepByLilit. Although we were first drawn to Elcie based on its Insta-famous founder, we stayed for its quality and mission of creating universal skin perfecting products.

What to buy: Elcie Pearl Radiance Primer ($38)

We were tempted to choose the Micro Silque Foundation (it's so good, many of the shades are continually sold out!), but we recently gravitated toward Elcie's new primer. The oil-free, water-based primer has just a touch of pearlescence to luminize your skin sans foundation required.
