5 Amazing Beauty Brands You Haven't Heard Of

In case you missed it, we had a total blast at the Makeup Show NYC this past week! While we always enjoy seeing new products and innovations from the household names in beauty, we also truly enjoy discovering new beauty brands to obsess over. So, without further ado, here are five beauty brands we’re totally crushing on that you probably haven’t heard of.

Bésame Cosmetics

1. Bésame Cosmetics

Founded: 2004

Price Range: $15 - $50

Fun Fact: Bésame Cosmetics’ Crimson Rouge tin was featured in the 2012’s Academy Award-winning film, “The Artist”.

The Scoop:

What do you get when you combine a historian, chemist, and beauty guru? Bésame Cosmetics! The goal of Bésame Cosmetics is to create luxurious cosmetics with amazing quality that mirror the glamor of decades of the past. Right off the bat we were drawn to the brand’s gorgeous packaging. The gold packaged Classic Color Lipstick seems to be their best seller, inspired by the flapper’s puckered Cupid’s Bow. These lipsticks come in a range of wearable shades replicated exactly from vintage originals of decades past!

A few other products that caught our eye was their 1940’s Cream Mascara and 1920’s Cake Mascara. These mascaras made us nostalgic for that old Hollywood glamor that is sometimes lost with all the new mascara technologies coming out. When it comes to Bésame Cosmetics you can count on more than nostalgia. Their products feature natural, classic, and reliable formulas that have proven to be timeless and effective.

amika hair care

2. Amika

Founded: 2007

Price Range: $7 - $220

un Fact: The name Amika is derived from Latin and means “girlfriend” or “friend” in a number of the Romance languages.

The Scoop:

Amika is an adorable hair care brand that hails straight from Brooklyn, NY. As if the brand’s unique, fun packaging isn’t enough to catch your eye, they also infuse many of their products with natural ingredients. The Obliphica Line of Haircare by Amika gets its power by harnessing the unique properties of the super fruit Sea Buckthorn Berry (also known as Obliphica). The Obliphica berry is rich in antioxidants, essential amino acids, vitamin E, rare Omega 7, and 190 other bioactive nutrients. It is actually a food and not a chemical based product, and the body instantly absorbs its nutrients.

The brand’s hair tools and products also made us swoon with their high-tech approach to styling. Some that stood out were the leave-in cream, Perk Up dry shampoo, and the beyond adorable printed blow dryer. If you’re looking to spice up your hair care routine, Amika might be just what the doctor ordered.

Dollup Beauty

3. Dollup Beauty

Founded: 2014

Price Range: $8 - $120

Fun Fact: The founder of Dollup Beauty is celebrity makeup artist Nikki Hynek.

The Scoop:

This beauty brand is perfect for anyone who is constantly rushing and a little bit disorganized. Dollup Beauty is best known for their Dollup Case, the first-ever multi-tasking makeup case that features portable vanity options and a customizable magnetic palette. The idea for the Dollup Case came from founder Nikki’s struggle with organization and time in the morning. The best part? The Dollup Case is stylish enough to be worn or used as a clutch. It retails for just $52 on the brand’s website and could seriously change the game when it comes to getting ready at home or on-the-go.

Since, the birth of the Dollup Case, Dollup Beauty has become a full on beauty brand offering various brushes, lip products, and facial makeup—all that appropriately fits perfectly inside the Dollup Case.

black up cosmetics

4. black|Up Cosmetics

Founded: 1999

Price Range: $12 - $60

Fun Fact: While black|Up Cosmetics products are primarily targeted to women of color, they welcome and encourage women of any race, culture, or ethnicity to experiment with their products.

The Scoop:

Black|Up Cosmetics is a makeup and cosmetics company dedicated to finding the perfect products for women of color. They had everything from concealers and foundations to lipsticks and colored eyeliners. We love how sleek their all-black and color accented packaging looked altogether or as a stand alone product—definitely not something you’d want to keep hidden in your purse!

Some of the brand’s best sellers include their contouring stick, concealer palette, waterproof smoky kohl pencils, and the two-way cake which is an amazing 2-in-1 foundation that takes on benefits of foundation and powder in one convenient product.

SENNA Cosmetics

5. SENNA Cosmetics

Founded: 1976

Price Range: $20 - $100

Fun Fact: Founder, Eugenia Watson, regularly donates her time and talents to the American Cancer Society’s ’Look Good, Feel Better’ program.

The Scoop:

As we passed by several booths, the SENNA Cosmetics one was definitely a show stopper. Celebrating their 40th anniversary they displayed beautiful, bold palettes to commemorate each of the decades their company has existed throughout. The philosophy and driving force behind SENNA Cosmetics is that every woman has a unique beauty imprint and makeup has an almost magical power to enhance, transform, and express that beauty.

While SENNA Cosmetics has been around for four decades—it’s surprising that many of the ladies in the Influenster office have never heard of them! Just to give a little background, SENNA Cosmetics was created in 1976 by Emmy-nominated artist Eugenia Weston. It was one of the first professional makeup artist lines to introduce more natural, wearable colors for the ‘everyday’ woman! They are best known for their foundations, super pigmented eye colors, and patented Form-A-Brow® stencil kit. Needless, to say SENNA is a beauty brand that we’ll be trying this summer!
